FMYSA Board Meeting 9/16/07

Baseball – Greg Axelrod shared fall numbers per age group, spring 07 vs. fall 07. Greg will present yoy numbers at next meeting.
TOFM – Jack Jones discussed process by which funds would be returned to town properties for upgrades to BF and game fields. Jack also took questions on signange, sponsorship costs, terms of agreement and where/how signs would be placed. Propsed locations would include BF, Gerrault and HT. Signs could be in place by spring 08, possible update by Jack at next meeting.
AAYBA – Jack Jones requested that we massage schedules to prevent town employees from putting in late nights, early mornings. Tournament now scheduled for 7/6-12 and 7/20-26.
Nick discussed AAYBA numbers – $195,000 total revenue, $172,000 in expenses, $23,000 net. How to spend this? BF 7, upgrade to 60/90, shade at Tiger, shade, soft toss nets, cages at HT, soft toss nets at GW, paved parking at HT and trees at Tiger were proposed.
2008 Tournaments – USSSA wants more of a presence. Triple Crown difficult to deal with due to limited communication, high tournament fees and low revenue stream. Vote taken and Triple Crown tournaments dropped. Concentration now with USSSA and Super Series.
Improved communication sought with rec teams re practice slots during tournament weekends. All agreed.
USSSA Tournament – Oct 26, solicited coaches for teams to work this event.
Fall registration issues – Greg spoke to uniform policy; teams taking advantage of personalizing uniforms; purchasing helmets, cutting sleeves off fall uniform shirts, preferring to wear last spring’s uniforms, etc. More time will e spent on these issues during winter task force.
Field Lottery – Greg received numerous comments indicating FMHS auditorium was a hit, coaches with multiple teams encountered scheduling conflicts during fall when none were experienced in the past (attributed to new personnel handling scheduling). This will also be discussed during winter task force.
BF closing – planned for Mon/Fri rather than Mon/Wed reality with schedule.
Discussed 10 game schedule for next fall to eliminate late weeknight games. Responsibility for softball scheduling will change by spring 08.
Volunteer position review – Nick stated that Ken Skillet would be stepping down as VP of softball, a 3 member board would be created to select a successor. Applications for the position had already been received.
