The board will examine proposals from both entities and make decisions prior to the spring 08 season.
Operations
Charlie Carr discussed field improvement initiative, particularly Bakersfield Park and HT,
- Plans to add shade at HT and Tiger moving forward; Sun Ports awarded the project.
- Soft toss nets, shade and cages to be considered next off-season for GW and HT.
- Consultant hired by parks board to plan practice fields on 5 non-used acres at Bakersfield.
- Non-game fields are receiving attention from the town; stripping and leveling.
- BF7 to transition to 54/80, 60/90, similar to BF8.
Baseball
Greg Axelrod covered multiple items including,
- Equipment bags – some outstanding from fall season but most accounted for due to being used for Toy Tournament.
- Winter Task Force – 63 responses to email to membership, first meeting to be held following tonight’s board meteting,
- Additional idea spawned for select coaches mentoring program, now to be included during task force discussions.
- Plans announced for spring 08 pitching/catching clinic.
Spring Calendar
Dates announced for spring 08 season.
Select Baseball
- Tournament schedule discussed, revisited thoughts from previous meeting on merits of continuing relationship with Triple Crown due to tournament expense, communication issues, refund policy and sub-standard trophies.
- 2008 schedule should include.
- Metroplex Classic
- North Zone State Championship
- Tara Sawyer
- AAYBA, among others
- Integrity might be opened up for spring tournaments and practices.
- Toy Tournament update,
- 42 teams had registered as of 11/26/07.
New teams
- New teams were added in the 10U and 11U age groups for spring 08, much discussion ensued on the need for additional 9U and 12U AA teams,
- Many comments from individuals in attendance including board members, directors, coaches and parents.
- Decision was reached to hold tryouts for a 12U team.
- The Board also elected to solicit interest from qualified coaches to coach the 9U team and from parents of interested players,
- A decision on the 9U team will be reached by mid January 08.
