Thank you for your interest in FMYSA SELECT baseball.
The Flower Mound area is known regionally as a hotbed of high school and competitive youth baseball programs. At the heart of the learning process is FMYSA’s Select Baseball Program, which fields teams at the AA, AAA and Majors levels in ages 9 through 14.
FMYSA SELECT has grown from a handful of teams in 2003 to nearly 30 teams in 2008. Our program, which begins at “kid pitch” age, is competitive and credible. Our teams regularly place high in tournaments. While our coaches have great autonomy between the fences, they also are certified by a national youth coaching organization, have passed a personal background check and have agreed to abide by the FMYSA SELECT Guidelines. All of this ensures participants and families a fair shake at playing time and participation while enjoying the best volunteer coaching in the area.
FMYSA teams practice locally at Town of Flower Mound parks. Most teams use North Texas Interlock for league games, and normally play home games in Flower Mound. Away games could be in Grapevine, Colleyville, Southlake, Coppell, Denton, Lake Cities, Euless, Keller and other nearby communities.
FMYSA baseball requires both financial and physical commitment from players and parents. Most teams begin practice in January, play practice and league games from February into the following November. Some have professional instructors as part of their programs. They normally play numerous tournaments locally and out-of-town. They play tournaments that sometimes start on Thursday evenings and usually end on Sundays (including Sunday mornings and evenings.) For those who don’t know, Sunday evening tournament baseball is a GOOD THING.
Before you tryout for a team(s), we advise you to consult with the prospective coach(s) to see if the team’s level of expected commitment from its players is compatible with your family’s ability to meet that commitment.
The number of teams FMYSA chooses to “sanction” is based on several factors:
1) quality of the coaches requesting a teams
2) past success of these coaches
3) past success of that age group’s All-Star teams
4) current number of “sanctioned” select coaches in that age group
5) field space availability
6) general parental/player interest, etc.
Teams usually form and/or conduct tryouts for new players in early August for the Fall season, and in November for the following spring season. This will allow those not making one of the FMYSA Sanctioned Select Teams to still have time to register for our Recreation program.
Select baseball is NOT an equal play program, although our guidelines prescribe minimum playing requirements and encourage all players to participate in every game and over the course of every tournament. We encourage all coaches to provide a memorable experience and to provide each player with quality game time experience.
Should you have further interest, please consult the team contacts page and browse some Web sites for tryout information. Act now, as these tryouts will come quickly.
See you at the field. – FMYSA Management
